Prelicensure ASN admissions requirements
Requirements for enrollment in the Herzing University online Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program include:
- A high school or previous college grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
- Achieve at least a composite score of 66 on the most current version of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS); TEAS score must be from within three years of anticipated date of matriculation.
- Students who have failed one or more nursing courses in another nursing program are not eligible to enroll in the online ASN.
Prelicensure BSN admissions requirements
Requirements for enrollment in the Herzing University online Bachelor of Science in Nursing program include both a GPA requirement and minimum benchmark scores on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS):

RN to BSN Option admissions requirements
To enroll in Herzing’s RN to BSN online program, prospective students must:
- Live in a state where Herzing University is authorized to offer the RN to BSN programi
- Hold a current, active and unrestricted license as a registered nurse (RN) in the same state in which they practice.
- Hold an Associate degree or diploma in nursing from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university.
Conditional admission may be available for those that are awaiting the date to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX). Students enrolled in Herzing University’s RN to BSN online program must maintain RN licensure throughout the program of study.
Bridge Option admissions requirements
To qualify for the ASN or BSN bridge options, you must be a licensed practical nurse (LPN), paramedic, military medic, respiratory therapist, or cardiovascular technologist.
Additional requirements include both a GPA requirement and minimum benchmark scores on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS):

Alternative entry points: if your GPA is too low, you may be eligible to enroll in our online Associate of Science in General Studies – Pre-nursing program (2.25 GPA required).
If your GPA is 3.0 or higher and you’ve already earned a non-nursing bachelor’s degree, you may also be eligible to enroll in our online MSN Direct Entry program.
Clinicals
Hands-on clinicals and intensives
Didactic, lecture-style coursework is completed 100% online in our online ASN and BSN programs— though the hands-on component via clinicals and intensives remain a crucial component of the pre-licensure and BSN bridge options.
We use a precepted model for clinical experience, and we have a dedicated team to help you find clinical placement as near to you as possible.
- Clinicals. Herzing University partners with several institutions in South Dakota as available sites for clinicals. Clinical site availability is subject to change, and we cannot guarantee your placement at any given institution prior to enrollment.
- Intensives. You will attend three 2-4 day intensives at our Nashville campus. In-person skills introduction, skills checks, testing, and faculty advisement ensure you’re on track to succeed right from the start as an RN.
